Most People Use Linux

I had an interesting conversation the other day with a friend of mine. I was talking about Linux and how he doesn't know anyone other than me that uses it.
To me, this was very unusual because almost everyone I know has used it or at least knows someone that uses it. The conversation ended and we went to lunch. His phone rang and I saw he has a phone that ran the WebOS. When he ended his call, I asked him why he was hiding this Linux love. This shocked him and I asked him to look at his phone and said it runs Linux. He didn't believe me, so he looked it up in wikipedia and his jaw hit the table. He was using Linux. I then proceeded to ask him more about the electronic gadgets that he uses and there we find more items running Linux. Everything from his DVR to his high priced car stereo ran a form of Linux.
To say the least, my friend was very shocked, but it also raised a very good point. Linux is around people more than they think. It is embedded into numerous devices and no one knows the difference. I know of a few companies that boast that they run on a Linux OS but they are generally trying to target a more technical user with their product. Some companies sell a DVR which is pretty much just a stripped down computer running Linux. I sometimes wonder if these companies would of made as much money if they advertised more that they ran on a Linux kernel. It may have attracted me, but would of probably scared off most users.
At the conclusion of our conversation, my friend had a new respect for Linux. He was shocked and amazed that he had been using Linux for so long and never knew it. He has since then started telling people he runs Linux, he says it helps his geek cred.
