Linux Foundation Exec Concerned About Apple's Magic

Outside of Apple's overenthusiastic fan base, a lot of people just shrugged when the iPad was unveiled. The Linux community, in particular, seemed to have little to worry about since the iPad is so expensive. But the executive director of the Linux Foundation is concerned that Linux can't compete with the iPad in terms of "magic."
Apple products are often said to have a special something that rivals just can't offer. Jim Zemlin wrote, "Apple is unmatched at creating a cohesive experience. While many question the revolutionary impact of the iPad, Apple's consistent user experience is far closer to magical than most things currently running Linux."
Zemlin then continued, "It may be easy for us to bash Microsoft every other week, but Apple is a true competitor. They have the polish, the focus on usability and ease of use, the application and hardware integration all to make using their technology a seamless and elegant part of your day, instead of a constant struggle with technology."
This is something for Linux professionals to keep in mind, even if it also counts as something Linux fans would rather not hear. The next-generation iPad Apple is likely to cost less, after all, and the first-gen iPad could benefit from a price cut at some point, too.
Perhaps Linux professionals can start brewing up their own form of magic in the meantime.
