Online forums are often an important source of information for people, and the members who provide useful answers on a regular basis deserve special recognition. Give a round of applause, then, as the "Top Five 2011 Linux.com Linux Gurus" have been named.
These people were effectively the most active (and valuable) members of the Linux.com message boards and blogs between February of 2010 and February of 2011. And by sharing their knowledge, they probably helped improve Linux's general reputation in addition to helping puzzled individuals.
So here are the folks the Linux Foundation singled out, starting with Matthew Fillpot (mfillpot), a moderator who was a runner-up last year. Fillpot earned the title "Ultimate Linux Guru," along with a loaded Linux computer.
Then Aaron Aceves (adnhack), Andrea Benini (ben), Shane Hatcher (ShaneH57), and Istimsak Abdulbasir (saqman2060) were designated standard Linux Gurus.
All five gurus will receive invitations to this year's Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit, and they also have the gratitude of the Linux Foundation.
Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs at the organization, said in a statement, "We want to thank this year's Linux.com Gurus for their important contributions to the community, and we are happy to provide a forum in which information can be exchanged among the world's Linux users. The 2011 Linux.com Gurus are gaining an important recognition that can help them market their skills in an increasingly lucrative and competitive area of IT: Linux development and administration."
Congratulations again to the gurus, and here's hoping Linux.com continues to be a valuable resource.
